Dave’s business experience
I have 25 years of starting and growing businesses, some successful, some not so much and all interspersed with jobs mainly in sales and management. The point is I have been where you probably are right now and really know how it feels and most importantly how to move through it. I have sold everything from jeans, cars, training to loans, car repairs, advertising and enterprise software solutions. The experience of building companies from nothing provides so many experiences in success and failure that I have developed my own methodologies and ways of thinking that often go against the grain of common thinking. I am now in a great position to offer help to others and show them there is a better way and a way that provides balance and enjoyment.
Five questions, five answers…
What has been your most pivotal moment in business?
Being sued and losing a 6 figure sum. It was the moment I realised how fast it can all go and the moment I realised that I can come back, stronger, wiser and build something even bigger and better.
If you could send a text to yourself the day you started out in business what would it say?
Be brave, be patient and enjoy the ride!
Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?
There have been many people who have and continue to inspire me but I think my children and wife inspire every day without even knowing it. I know it’s a cliché but it’s true, they are the reason I want to be the best version of me and provide a life we as a family all want.
What book should all business owners read?
So many to choose from and I have read/listened to 100s but Michael Gerber’s “The E myth” is, I think, the perfect book for someone starting out or newish to business. A close 2nd is Rob Moore’s “Money”. It’s the fear and anxiety of money that stops so many businesses and people realising their true potential. There are many books and some other authors I would encourage you to read are Daniel Priestly, Simon Synek and Pejman Ghadimi.
What is your favourite quote?
There are so many but my favourite is something so simple that I carry it with me and keep it close to everything I do. “Make a real difference”. I think if this can be held close then a lot of everything else falls into place. One of my other favourites is “Rome wasn’t built in a day and the Emperor never picked up a brick” Happy to explain this one if you ask me!!
